Yesterday we said goodbye to this lovely family as they continued their journey with the support of their GP and Health Visitor.
It’s been such a pleasure to walk alongside them throughout this pregnancy, as they made changes in their plan, during labour and birth at @RSCH_Maternity and the first days of family life.
#continuity is amazing for families and midwives
Some lovely #feedback from a recent client who we were able to support throughout their pregnancy journey despite changes to their planned place of birth and #birth plan #continuity #BetterBirths @RSCH_Maternity #BirthIsAmazingWhereverItHappens
The team have had the very great pleasure of supporting this couple throughout pregnancy and the early weeks of parenthood. Although plans changed prior to birth the team were delighted to still be able to witness this little ones arrival earthside.
Today the the team celebrated eight years of providing a dedicated, case-loading, homebirth service for families booked with the Royal Surrey!
This year we took inspiration from The Greatest Showman with a circus themed party complete with red noses, popcorn, and candy floss- and the tag line- Your Body, Your Baby, Your Show!
We were delighted to see so many familiar faces and get the chance to observe how much your little ones, and you as parents, had changed and grown over the preceding months!

If you are new to the team and would like to meet us to have a chat about your birth place options simply pop along to one of our informal forums or email us to arrange a chat in the comfort of your own home.
While circumstances dictated that their birth plan had to change it has still been an absolute pleasure to support this family as they prepared for and welcomed their little one in to the world #BirthIsAmazingWhereverItHappens #Continuity #Intuition @RSCH_Maternity
Great a heatwave
Said no pregnant woman ever!
The midwives at Tommy’s have some great advice about how to keep yourself cool during the heatwave.
It is very warm in the unit at the moment. If you do need to visit the hospital we recommend that you wear light layers, take a refillable water bottle and face flannel. A cooling face spray and/or battery powered personal fan would also be beneficial.
If you feel unwell in the heat don’t hesitate to contact the team, your GP or the pregnancy advice line 0300 123 5473
One of the first exciting #BetterBirths developments to come out of the Surrey Heartlands partnership is a brand new dedicated maternity advice line.
Launching on the 9th of April, the advice line will be staffed by experienced midwives who’s responsibility it will be to provide a dedicated service 24/7.
Freeing up other midwives to give clinical care, this phone line will allow maternity clients to access the advice and support they need in a timely way.
This may include answering your pregnancy questions, supporting you at home early labour and arranging transfer to your chosen place of birth and a midwife available 24hrs a day to offer feeding and newborn advice.
