Last week we said goodbye to this lovely family as they embarked on the next step of their Journey as a family of five.
It was a pleasure to support them through the twists and turns of pregnancy, birth and flu with the help of our wonderful multidisciplinary colleagues at the Royal Surrey.
Today we said goodbye to the lovely family who we’ve had the pleasure of supporting through two pregnancies and through #continuity have been able to facilitate a positive birth experience #BirthIsAmazingWhereverItHappens @RSCH_Maternity
“I just wanted to take a minute to thank the home birth team as a whole for the amazing experience you gave me in the months leading up to, during and after [redacted]’s birth.
Not only were your antenatal visits with my named midwife Kirsty a wonderful opportunity to focus on my baby in an otherwise very busy life, the care I received during labour from Kirsty and Caroline was second to none.
I can only describe home birth as magical and both times it has had a monumental effect on me. So much so that I’ve spent the 4 weeks since [redacted]’s birth, cuddling and feeding him whilst wondering how on earth I could become a midwife myself with 3 small children. I still don’t know the answer but I have begun an access course to make university a possibility because I know if I don’t try I won’t forgive myself.
I’ve seen first hand what a difference a better birth can make to a woman’s physical and mental health at the most important time of their life and I can think of no better job than to be the person to facilitate that, you are all wonderful!
There is no thanks enough for what you all do. If you ever need someone to come to forums or write testimonials I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one to volunteer but I could sing your praises all day long. Thank you again from my whole family, [redacted] “
This feedback is especially poignant for the team as our own Kirsty was inspired to be a midwife by the care she received when she had her own children!

This picture feels especially apt after the feeding frenzy of night two!
It’s been a pleasure to support this family as they’ve navigated their choices and developed a plan that felt right for them and their circumstances and we are looking forward to continuing our support in to the postnatal period.
To this incredible couple we wish you and your little one a lifetime of happiness. It’s been a pleasure to support you on the first leg of your parenting journey.
Due to the popularity of our previously published stats the Jodie has put together the stats for the second quarter (April 2019-June 2019) of this year.
In the second quarter of 2019 the team were responsible for case-loading the care of 49 woman, 94% of whom went on to have a vaginal birth.
92% of our caseload were cared for in labour by a midwife they had met before.
From this caseload of 49 women, 81.6% (n=40) still intending to birth at home at the start of their labours, while 9 women (18.4%) , for various reasons, changed their intended place of birth.
35 members of our caseload (87.5%) birthed their babies at home as planned while 12.5% changed their planned during the intrapartum period (active labour to two hours after birth) and transferred to the Royal Surrey for further care/support.
90% of the women who laboured/birthed at home used water to support them in their labours (hydrotherapy) and 85.7% of the births that took place at home occurred within the water (waterbirth).
We were privileged to welcomed 19 girls and 30 boys in to the world and to support their parents in the first crucial weeks of parenthood.
If you would like to learn more about the team and birthing your baby at home, and you live within our catchment, come along to one of the team’s informal forums or contact the team to arrange a 1-2-1 chat in the privacy of your own home at email@example.com
Always love to receive client feedback. This was in a lovely card sent to Kirsty by one of our clients who birthed their baby in September #FeedbackFriday #continuity #BetterBirths
Some lovely #feedback from a recent client who we were able to support throughout their pregnancy journey despite changes to their planned place of birth and #birth plan #continuity #BetterBirths @RSCH_Maternity #BirthIsAmazingWhereverItHappens
The team have had the very great pleasure of supporting this couple throughout pregnancy and the early weeks of parenthood. Although plans changed prior to birth the team were delighted to still be able to witness this little ones arrival earthside.
This beautiful baby girl had a last minute change of plans when her wonderful mummy have birth to her with the support of our friends at @RSCH_Maternity #BirthIsAmazingWhereverItHappens #continuity #Pregnancy #postnatalcare
