#FridayFeedback

Sharing this lovely feedback (with permission) that was sent to Amy Stubbs, Head of Midwifery at the Royal Surrey Hospital.

“Dear Amy

We just wanted to write to you to let you know what a brilliant experience we have had with the homebirth team lately.

Our son [redacted] was born on 13 October and our daughter was born three years ago also under the care of the team.

I know that funding must be difficult and there must be pressure to cut cost but I wanted to write to you to say how much we valued this service and how important it is. I honestly believe that women who use the homebirth team have such a positive experience that it must help with mental health going forwards.

The midwives in the team are without exception kind, knowledgeable and sensible. I was so impressed with how each of them seems to love their job and be so interested and up to date with current research.

They are so kind, and non judgemental and reassuring. They also seem to never miss a beat in terms of arrangements, which is particularly impressive as their plans must change all the time. They are all so efficient and organised.

Having them come to our house and get to know us made a huge difference. [redacted] actually came too quickly for the midwives to arrive but I am so pleased we had planned a home birth and they were so good with all the follow up.

Kirsty was my named midwife and she is absolutely superb. She is so kind, so efficient, so sensible and knowledgeable and very caring. All the midwives were brilliant though.

I can’t thank them, or royal surrey, enough for this service. If we can ever assist the team with anything we’d be delighted to do so.

With thanks

“I just wanted to take a minute to thank the home birth team as a whole for the amazing experience you gave me in the months leading up to, during and after [redacted]’s birth.

Not only were your antenatal visits with my named midwife Kirsty a wonderful opportunity to focus on my baby in an otherwise very busy life, the care I received during labour from Kirsty and Caroline was second to none.

I can only describe home birth as magical and both times it has had a monumental effect on me. So much so that I’ve spent the 4 weeks since [redacted]’s birth, cuddling and feeding him whilst wondering how on earth I could become a midwife myself with 3 small children. I still don’t know the answer but I have begun an access course to make university a possibility because I know if I don’t try I won’t forgive myself.

I’ve seen first hand what a difference a better birth can make to a woman’s physical and mental health at the most important time of their life and I can think of no better job than to be the person to facilitate that, you are all wonderful!

There is no thanks enough for what you all do. If you ever need someone to come to forums or write testimonials I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one to volunteer but I could sing your praises all day long. Thank you again from my whole family, [redacted]

This feedback is especially poignant for the team as our own Kirsty was inspired to be a midwife by the care she received when she had her own children!

Royal Surrey Stars Patient Choice nomination 2019:

“This team has gone above and beyond any expectation/norms for me and my family. The ladies helped me to have the birth I always wanted whilst trying to overcome PTSD post previous birth I have struggled with for the past 10 years.

I have my life back because of their dedication, love and care. I am forever indebted to Laura, Emily, Tanya plus all of the Jasmine team for giving my life back again. Without their exceptional professional care and incredible patience I would not be the woman I am today.

My deepest thanks go out to Laura for being my amazing support throughout the pregnancy and delivery the baby and Emily for staying with us post birth and being our rock.”

Royal Surrey Start Award, Patient Choice nomination 2019:

“The home birth team are an amazing support to women and families. For the first time I have felt that all of the midwives I met have made a personal connection with me, worked with and listened rather than advise from a purely clinical point of view.

They put me at ease before, during and after birth and helped to make giving birth a. Even more extra special experience. I appreciated their post birth support and looked forward to their visits.

They provided reassurance and a safe space to talk about any concerns. It felt like talking to family.

The continuity in care they provided by having a names midwife really shouldn’t be underestimated. Almost makes me want to have another baby to see them again…almost!”

Nomination for Royal Surrey Stars Award 2019:

“The team provide midwifery support to all families expecting a baby who are interested in having their baby at home. They are a small team who cover a huge area and they constantly go above and beyond to ensure that families receive the care they need.

I had my first baby at home and it could not have been a more positive experience and that is down to the advice and support given by the team throughout my pregnancy as well as during my labour, delivery and postnatal care.

They all deserve praise and recognition for all the incredible work they do every day of the year.”

“Dear Kirsty, Jodie, Lucy and all the homebirth team,

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you have done for us in helping with [redacted]’s birth.

We so appreciate all that you did – all the lovely home visits before his birth- Each appointment is like having very knowledgeable friend over for a cup of tea. It all makes for such a nice experience.

Thank you also for all that Jodie and Lucy did on the night of his birth. So calm and quiet and carefully looking after us while we were dazed and confused with a new baby and then after his birth it has been so reassuring having Kirsty’s advice on feeding, gunky eyes and baby poo!

It made such a difference to us and we will always be grateful to all of you.

With all our love and best wishes,

September 2018____________________________________To Jodie, Laura, Tanya, Heather and Caroline, (special thanks to Laura, Tanya and Alisha). My mummy and daddy wanted me to say thank you for delivering me safely in to the world. Mummy keeps telling me how wonderful you all were when I was in her tummy. When I was nearly out I could hear you saying nice things to mummy so I knew she was doing really well! Daddy doesn’t stop talking about how well you looked after me and Mummy. It was really nice being at home and Mummy, Daddy and I being able to get in to our own bed after I got out of the big swimming pool. I really liked that you kept coming to visit me after I was born to make sure I was ok (I’m sorry for having a wee on your scales- I didn’t realise my nappy was off!). I know that it’s a good thing that you don’t have to visit me any more but I will miss you all lots. I’m not old enough to eat chocolate yet but Mummy and Daddy day its really nice so I wanted to get you some to say thank you. Lots of love, E

Thank you for this lovely card baby E. We were very privileged support your parents and be present at you birth.

Lots of love,

Surrey Hills Team
